Crayon colors are numerous! There are hundreds of different colors,
but there are also hundreds of different types of them as well!
From something that started with just eight colors comes a world
of various craft mediums. Anyone that loves Crayola Crayons knows
that they are among the most popular and often the most unique
of all crayons. Let’s explore a little about these wonderful creations
that have played such a role in our lives!
The History of Crayons
Although crayons were actually an invention of Europe, this company
actually got its start here, in the United States. In 1864 a man
named Joseph W. Binney founded a company that would later be called
Crayola. Through some trial and error experiments, this company
would be the one to revolutionize the industry and produce what
we know today as the crayon. In 1903 the first box of crayons
which included black, brown, blue, orange, yellow, purple, red,
and green was sold. The cost? These eight were sold for a mere
five cents a box! But, since then, they have come a long, long
way!
In fact, we now have ones that are totally unlike all others.
They glitter. There are those that shine. There are those that
are made in a large size to accommodate the hands of smaller children.
There are those that are glow in the dark as well. We shouldn’t
forget to mention the wide world of crayons that smell good too!
In fact, you’ll also find hundreds of colors to choose from! They
are sold in various size boxes with different themes to them.
Some will look fantastic and new while others are the same ones
you have loved most of your life!
Why are they so popular though? Sure, everyone needs a new box
for school each year. And, yes, they do offer a great pastime
for younger children. But, its not just those younger children
who can enjoy a coloring book and a fresh box! In fact, many adults
find coloring to be a great way to relax and unwind. It is an
excellent way to bond with a child as well. It is fun and educational.
You have many learning experiences that come from these simple
pages. We will continue to love coloring and all it has to offer.
Few things smell as good as a box of fresh crayons!
